Hate speech – Á fundi í Strasbourg um Addressing the mental health impact of racism and hate speech

Hate speech has a depressing effect on humanity. It is very important that we are aware, listen and act. Societies should respond, face the facts and not try to silence the matter. In Iceland we are worried, there is a backlash in the fight for the rights of minority groups and others who have taken action in the public arena. People have been attacked and their homes have been occupied, this is unacceptable. We politicians had to take our responsibility regarding hate speech

Urgent need to end the humanitarian crisis for women, children and the hostages in Gaza

I will just say that all states must do their utmost to bring about a ceasefire in Gaza,
the time is running out and womenn and children who are still alife suffer immensely.
They don´t know if they vill live the next day. The final warning for governments is running out.

We need immediate political action to alleviate the suffering of civilians in Gaza,”
“We don’t have much more time.”

People of Gaza have had to endure unspeakable horror every single day for almost two years.
As all of us know Civilians, children and adults, are being killed every single day.
Those who survive are being forcibly displaced from place to place in search of safety that is nowhere to be found.
In april, Israel HAD carried out 224 attacks on refugee homes and camps in Gaza over a three-week period, 36 of which killed only women and children.
It seems completely obvious that this is genocide.
It is really ridiculous that it’s not just said outright by EVERYONEHospitals and health and humanitarian workers are being attacked and there are severe restrictions on the movement of humanitarian aid into Gaza and the distribution of relief supplies.
Earlier today we heard about all the journalists who had been killed while doing their job in Ukraine or are held captive. At least 248 journalists have now been killed in Gaza, more than in any other conflict in modern times.

GENOCIDE?

It is obvious in my opinion No, some people don’t think this is comparable to the Holocaust as an example. There is more systematic, first camps and then gas chambers. They have announced that they intend to exterminate the Palestinians and have gone very far in their mission. It is deliberate and systematic killing or persecution of a large number of people from a particular national or ethnic group with the aim of destroying that nation or group. Although they are not exactly referring to gas chambers. It can be argued that the Gaza Strip is actually camps because they can’t get anything to survive.
now there is a report which is dense, hava so much info.

Child sexual exploitation and sexual abuse are among the worst forms of violence against children, and are crimes that know no borders. The constant rise in these crimes is exacerbated by the use of digital technologies. Harmonised national laws and international cooperation are essential to improve prevention, protect victims and prosecute perpetrators. The European Day helps to raise awareness to that end.

Background

The European Day for the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse is marked every year on 18 November.

A Council of Europe initiative, the Day is designed to raise awareness and facilitate an open discussion on the need to prevent child sexual exploitation and abuse, and protect children from these crimes.

The 2025 edition of the Day focuses on “Strengthening the protection of children against sexual exploitation and sexual abuse through evidence-based policy making.” This year’s theme highlights the crucial role of reliable and comprehensive data collection in shaping effective policies and practices.

Under the Council of Europe Convention on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse (Lanzarote Convention), State Parties are required to establish mechanisms or designate focal points for collecting and analysing data to monitor and address the issue of child sexual exploitation and sexual abuse.

However, collecting data is not an end in itself, it is a powerful tool to inform preventive and responsive measures that truly protect children.

The aim is to ensure that responses to child sexual exploitation and sexual abuse are rooted in a clear understanding of the scope, nature, and trends of these offences.

Gathering and analysing data enables governments, institutions and civil society to identify risk factors, allocate resources efficiently, monitor progress, and ultimately implement informed measures that safeguard children.

Risks factors for being að victim of sexual violence in childhood that are known include family composition, domestic violence, alcoholisim and mental illness.

The greatest risk factor for a cycle of abuse in men, i.e. for them to become perpetrators of sexual crimes later in life, is if they have been abused by either their mother or sister. Otherwise, no strong relationship has been found  between being abused in childhood and becoming a perpetrator later in life.

Research has shown that the risk factors most likely to increase the likelihood of sexual abuse include family structure, i.e. frequent and prolonged absence of one or both parents. Incapacity, especially of the mother due to alcoholism, marital difficulties, parental substance abuse, and social isolation, often due to domestic violence and punitive parenting, are all risk factors for the child being sexually abused (Putnam, 2003). A stepfather doubles the risk for girls, the risk not only being linked to the current stepfather but also putting the girl at risk of being sexually abused by the men who have lived in the home before them (Mullen, Martin, Anderson, Romans og Herbison, 1993)
